Charity art auction planned

Charity art auction planned Art works of popular Vietnamese and foreign artists will be auctioned at an annual gala dinner that aims to raise funds for Operation Smile of Viet Nam, which will perform cleft palate operations for Vietnamese children.

Up for grabs: Mother and Child, an oil on canvas by Dinh Ngoc Thang, one of several paintings that will be auctioned later this month for charity.
At the 14th annual charity art auction later this month, several paintings donated by French artists who attended a group exhibition at HCM City Fine Arts Museum a few months ago will also go under the hammer.

Vietnamese painters donating their art works for the exhibition include Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Ton That Bang, Le Anh Can, Nguyen Thi Kim Chi and Van Y.

Besides the 15 art works donated by the artists, several art pieces will be put up for bid during auction. As usual, Rob Blain, chairman and CEO of CB Richard Ellis Asia Pacific, will conduct the auction. Rob has supported the art auction since 2003.

According to organisers, the previous art auction held in March in Ha Noi raised enough funds to provide corrective facial surgery to around 460 Vietnamese children suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate deformities.

Julie Robins, OSV's development director, said in the organisation now conducts 20 operational programmes a year, up from one several years ago.

This year, the US-based non-governmental organisation aims to provide free corrective facial surgeries to as many as 2,000 of the estimated 3,000 newborn children of Viet Nam with facial deformities.

OSV has screened 23,000 children with facial deformities, with 17,000 of them receiving operations.

The charity auction will be held on May 21st in HCM City Park Hyatt Hotel.
